When a person has experience trauma and other mental health issues, often the mind, the body, and the emotions are disconnected.  One of the first steps of healing is for one to recognize the tension caused by triggers.  Then, the individual can learn how to deal with the tension.  The goal is to remain in a relaxed body state which is similar to the goals of Yoga.  However, no religious connections to yoga are made in Body Awareness Therapy. (BAT)
